Metro Championship Meet!

The two day, Metro area meet is complete. It was a warm two days but once again Milton Frank Stadium proved to be terribly windy.
Still, we turned in some good performances and even had a NEW SCHOOL RECORD!

Congratulations to our medal winners!

We had a NEW Sparkman Record set!

  • Ben Dailey set the new record in the Boys Pole Vault with a Jump of 12 feet! That mark moved Ben into milesplit.com’s “Elite” vaulter ranking for the state.

We also had 14 Senators score NEW P.R.s in this meet!

A track meet held on a sunny, WARM Saturday?
It was almost hard to believe but that’s what we got and our Senators responded!

  • Kelcie Johnson set the new mark in the Girls Triple Jump with a mark of 28′ – 8″ !

Well, another of our “Arctic Spring” JV meets is in the books.
Hopefully everyone headed the advice to bring warm clothes and blankets!

Cullman Classic

Monday night was another LATE NIGHT and (COLD) meet but our Senators were once again populating the winner’s podium!

The results are in and it was a strong showing by our Sparkman Senators!
Our Women’s Team finished 10th with a season high 57 points and the Men’s Team finished 8th also scoring a season’s best 67 points!

We had TWO NEW Sparkman Records set!

  • 8th grader Gabrielle Griner scored a 2nd place in the Girl’s Pole Vault with a record jump of 9 Feet. This was her best finish in a varsity meet and the record jump made her the Top Ranked Middle School Girl Vaulter in the State!

We also had 15 Senators score NEW P.R.s in this meet!

A full week of Senator Track Action!

Track season is now half over for 2013!

Only 4 Varsity meets remain before the State Sectional qualifying meet and only 2 JV meets remain before the N.Alabama JV Championships. So, I hope everyone is finding time to work out some during Spring Break and will be ready to really work hard to make their best mark!

Weather permitting (*rolls eyes*) we will be starting back with a FULL week of track following the break!

This Monday, April 1st, the Varsity Team will be traveling to Cullman for the postponed “Cullman CLassic”.

TUESDAY April 2nd is JV meet #4 at James Clemens HS, located on County Line Road.

We finish up the week Saturday April 6th with the Scottsboro Invitational.

Congradulations to our JV Team

Our JV Team had a good showing Tuesday night in Scottsborro including several winners!

Gabrielle Griner took first in the Girls Polevault with a jump of 8′.

Javaris Hart took first in the Boys High Jump with a jump of 5’4″.

Jake Russell won both the 800 AND the 1600 meter run.

and our team of Dezjuan Cade, Marquis Harris, Keith Perrine and Joseph Gaines won the boys 4x100m !

Go Senators!

The Panther Invitational, Our Season has begun!

Our season has finally gotten underway and we already have a bunch of NEW PRs and THREE new School Records !

In a warm but extremely windy Milton Frank Stadium we put in a good first showing.
For the Boys, Ben Dailey captured 2nd in the polevault with a height of 11’6″ and set a new PR in the Javelin with an 8th place throw of 133-1.

For the Girls, Brianca Trammell raced for a 3rd in the 100mH with a NEW PR time of 17.27 ! She also scored a NEW PR with a time of 52.98 in her 8th place finish in the 300mH !
8th grader Gabrielle Griner also managed a points winning 8th place in the Pole Vault.
Cicely Seldon was another of our PR athletes. Her new mark of 97-10 was enough for a 6th place finish in the Discus.

…and those new school records ???
Ben’s new PR in the Javelin was also a SCHOOL RECORD!
In the 1600m run, Anthony Parameswaran set a new mark with a time of 4:59.55 !

Kelcie Johnson got on the record board for the girls, fielding a mark of 28-8 in the Triple Jump.

Our next meet is the Cullman Classic, next Friday March 22nd at 4pm

Our next JV meet is Tuesday at 4pm in Scottsborro.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES!

  • All participation forms and copies of Birth Certificates must be turned in before the March 2nd meet. (NOTE: LINK to the “AHSAA participation form” and the “Out of County” form have now been fixed (2/10/13)
    • Orders for TRACK WARM-UP SUITS MUST be turned in by TODAY Feb. 21st!
    • Orders for Hoodies, sweat pants & extra T-shirts MUST be turned in by Mon. Feb. 25th!

INFO from the 2013 Outdoor Track Meeting!

Here is a brief summary of the information from our Feb. 7th meeting.
We will have more in depth info posted by this weekend.

NOTE! You did not have to attend this meeting to join the team. New students are always welcome!  What events you participate in and which meets you will attend will be determined by your performances in the daily practices.

The Track Season will start with after school practices on Monday Feb. 18th. That is just 5 days before our first meet!

Practices are after school 3:30 – 4:30 or 5pm (depends on light and weather) Monday thru Thursday with some Friday practices TBD.  Athletes should meet out at the track. If it is raining, meet in the hall outside the gym. Parents of middle school athletes who would like to participate in a car pool (or can volunteer to transport others to the practice) please contact Dawn Hawkins.

Participation forms must be filled out and turned in TO THE COACH before the first meet (March 2nd).
Required Forms are –

  • Physical Waiver
  • Out of County Field Trip
  • Concussion Information Form
  • Star Sportsman Certificate
  • AHSAA participation form
  • Copy of birth certificate

The participation Fee is $150 or $100 if you ran CC last fall. This covers meet entry fees and bus transportation for two of this year’s meets. Checks should be made out to Sparkman High School.
Other expenses that will vary include any personal transportation to and from meets, spirit wear & warm-ups the athlete chooses to buy and other personal equipment (such as track shoes).

Meets – A TENATIVE schedule is posted HERE. We hope to have it confirmed by next week.

There will be meets most Saturdays starting March 2nd and going through April 27th (or May 3rd If you make the State Track meet!). There will be JV meets for 7,8 & 9th grade atheletes on Tuesdays after school from March 5th – April 16th.
Parent help is needed at these meets! We have a canopy that needs to be set up at each meet and we have water jugs that need to be filled. If you would like to volunteer to take care of one or more of these items (or be on the list to help out) please let Dawn Hawkins know.

Fund raiser
We have one fund raiser that we will be doing.
Friday April 29th after school lets out we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Sparkman Invitational Track Meet. (click here for more info)
Volunteers are needed to help with concessions, awards, finish line management, field events and just generally trying help keep a hundred and fifty 4th & 5th graders organized!

2013 State Indoor Track Meet!

The first day of the 2013 AHSAA Indoor Track Meet is complete and Sparkman athletes turned in some solid performances with new PRs and even new Indoor SCHOOL RECORDS!

Sophomore, Miguel Rivas improved his record in the Long Jump by more than a half a foot, turning in a jump of 15′-10″(4.82m). This was less then 6″ shy of the Sparkman Indoor Record!

In the grueling 3200m, 7th grader Renita Vander Schaaf, took on some of the best high school girls in the state, turning in a first mark of 15:33.89

In the 60m Hurdles, senior Brianca Trammell broke the School Record that she set at the last meet, with a new time of 10.59 !

In the women’s 800m Run,senior Bailey Mehok missed the Sparkman Indoor Record by just 2.46 seconds!

Sophomore Kelcie Johnson set a new mark for herself (and a new mark for the Sparkman Record books) in the Triple Jump. Kelcie had a best mark of 26′-11″

New marks were also set in both the Men’s and Women’s 4x200m Relay.
